Jazz lovers emerged on Fayetteville’s
Festival Park on May 11, 2013, for WFSS 91.9
radio’s inaugural “All- American Jazz Festival.”
featured an exceptional line-up of
world-renowned jazz greats to include The Jazz
Crusaders, Keiko Matsui, Marcus Johnson, and
Maysa. Each artist displayed a style of jazz
that captivated the audience and had concert
goers and event organizers already making plans
for next year’s event.
“With this being
our first All-American Jazz Festival, we are
elated with the outcome. The featured artists
were outstanding. From contemporary jazz to
‘straight-ahead’ or traditional jazz, the show
provided it all. Maysa, Marcus Johnson, Keiko
Matsui, and the legendary Jazz Crusaders are all
top-notched, internationally recognized jazz
performers. With this caliber of performers,
our one-day jazz festival can stack up to any
other in the country, in my opinion,” stated Dr.
Marsha McLean, Interim WFSS General Manager and
Assistant Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs.
She continued, “We
were also pleased to feature local jazz
performers including the Hoke County High School
Jazz Band, the Corky Jones Trio, and the Paul
Saunders Quartet as part of our pre-show. The
audience experienced a great afternoon and
evening of jazz with a total of 7 performers.
We are in the planning stage for next year, but
could not be more pleased and proud of this
year’s inaugural event.”
